Kent Syverud is the chancellor of Syracuse University. Now in his eleventh year as chancellor, he works with faculty, students, staff, trustees and alumni to steward the university through a period of transformational change and progress. Syverud came to Syracuse University from Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as the dean and the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor at the School of Law. Prior to that, he served as the dean of Vanderbilt University Law School and associate dean for academic affairs and professor at University of Michigan Law School. Syverud has led the effort to update the governance of the Atlantic Coast Conference, serving as chair of the board of directors from 2019-2021 and chair of the 2020 search for new commissioner James Phillips.
